Dr Moeti Announcement of the Mwele Malecela Mentorship program

Dr Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, the WHO Regional Director for Africa, made this announcement at the BMGF reception at ASTMH, sharing that applications for the Mwele Malecela Mentorship program will launch in Dec 2022 for mentors and mentees. Dr Mwelecele Ntuli Malecela was the Director of WHO’s Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases and is remembered as an inspirational figure, a dedicated leader and a committed listener. Dr Malecelawas a dedicated champion for NTDs and for women and girls. She mentored many, she inspired many more. She is missed tremendously by us all. There can be no better tribute to Mwele, as Director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO), than to deliver the WHO roadmap on NTDs. To change the lives of over a billion people, with renewed zeal, commitment and passion. WHO announced the passing of Dr Mwele Ntuli Malecela on 10 February 2022. Dr Malecela died after a prolonged illness at the age of 58.
