Ok Brian. Here’s how we oil the IPE decking! A lot of do’s and don’ts covered in this. You want to make sure you use a low grit sand paper, Ipe is extremely dense so a fine grit won’t allow the grain to absorb the oil. Also water popping is redundant with ipe, it won’t hurt but it won’t help either. Make sure you use a liberal amount of oil but don’t allow puddles because it will become a sticky mess. Finally the most important step, do not leave your rags out in the sun, they will catch fire. Spontaneous combustion of rags is very real. I advise to turn your gloves inside out and place them in the used can with some extra water. Make sure to seal the can. Thanks for watching hope that helps!
