Sevengill shark filmed off Carp Reef

  / blueoceanproductions   I filmed this scene of a male seven gill shark while diving today (7/30/11) on Carp Reef off Carpinteria, CA. It looked like it was about 6 feet long. These sharks are unique for many reasons, especially because they have 7 gill slits instead of 5, like most sharks. They also don't have a first dorsal fin like most sharks do. These sharks can grow to about 10 feet long and they eat sharks, rays, fish, seals, and carrion. Sightings are not common but seven gills sightings are increasing, especially off San Diego, CA.
