STORYLINE: Dozens of supersonic jets fly up and down over a military airport near South Korea's capital, decorating the sky with colorful contrails. That's how Seoul Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX), a biennial international military technology expo, kicked off today (16 October 2023) with a riveting display of aerobatics by fighters jets, including Black Eagles and F-22. This year's exhibition is the largest-ever event of its kind in South Korea and highlights the country's locally developed KF-21 Boramae fighter jet, which made its debut at the event. The indoor showroom displays the engine of the jet manufactured by Hanwha Aerospace through technological cooperation with General Electric. Korea Aerospace Industries Association (KAIA) official Han Bong-soo says the new fighter jet is "the largest military asset development project in South Korea's history." He also explains the significance of the expo to the country. "Seoul ADEX is the only place in South Korea where you can see the present and future of aerospace and defense technologies at one place, and it also gives an opportunity for South Korea's (military) industry, which is attracting global attention, to take a leap forward," Along with KF-21 fighters, the exhibition showcases advanced air assets - F-35 fighter jets, FA-50 light attack aircraft, K2 battle tanks and K9A1 self-propelled howitzers. It also features various defense solutions for detecting nuclear and missile attacks on the ground, such as Long-Range Surface-To-Air Missile (L-SAM) radar and the multi-function radar of the Medium-Range Surface-To-Air Missile and the multi-target radar of the Korean-style Iron Dome. South Korea's strategic military export products, including Chunmoo, a self-propelled multiple launch rocket system and Redback, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), are also displayed. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
