Find out more about this pedal here: https://tubesteader.com/products/roy Please note: the ROY can also be used to add a Voxy flavour to IR software, power amplifiers and FX loop returns. However (because I don't own any of that equipment!) this video will focus on its capabilities as a front-of-amp overdrive pedal - an application where it sounds utterly fantastic! Olly at Tubesteader has quickly built a reputation for designing some of the finest tube-based pedals on the market - and already has compact recreations of the Dumble ODS, Orange Rockerverb, Fender Tweed Champ, and Magnatone Super 59 in his lineup....and they're all wonderful. And now, he's turned his hand to distilling another legendary amplifier down into this format. Enter the ROY...Tubesteader's take on the legendary 'Top Boost' Vox AC30 circuit that so many players have found their voice with over the years. With a high voltage-running 12AX7 tube at its heart, there's also a transistor on the front end that pushes the signal harder into the glassware. As well as giving a little more gain, this also has the effect of creating the spongy feel under the fingers that only really comes from a tube running flat out. The ROY has two sides, with independent gain & volume controls for each, and a shared two-band EQ. This EQ somewhat pivots around the midrange - allowing you to create mid-pushed & mid-scooped tones despite not having a mid band. You also get the Tone Cut control mounted on the top of the pedal, which is worth its weight in gold when dialling in gainy tones....if there's ever a hint of harshness, just turn this down until it goes away. Cool, eh? What do you think? A classic Vox in a box? Or not for you? Please comment below!
