The Western world is preparing to take swift action, fearing that Russia could launch a new land invasion in Europe and lead to a more extensive war. While many security analysts comment that “Russia is already at war with the West,” they argue that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) troops should send troops to Ukraine. European countries insist that Vladimir Putin’s administration will not be limited to Ukraine and that NATO’s deterrence should be increased. This crisis, which is particularly prominent in “breaking news” news, continues to find widespread coverage in YouTube live broadcasts and trending lists under the title of the Ukraine-Russia war. European leaders are uncomfortable with being excluded from the talks between the US and Russia. While the Donald Trump administration is sitting at the table with Moscow, there is a fear that this process, in which Ukraine does not participate, could impose a new and “unjust” peace on Kiev. While Western security circles describe this as “breaking news”, they keep the issue on the agenda on digital platforms with expressions such as “viral trailer” and “most watched”. On the other hand, it is being said that in line with the new defense plans being shaped within Europe, the presence of 100,000 to 150,000 European soldiers in Ukraine may be required even if a peace agreement or ceasefire is reached. However, the US refuses to join this force with ground troops; it is stated that it can only provide assistance in matters such as air transportation or logistical support. In contrast, France and England are relatively more willing to send troops to the field. While British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer stated that he is ready to send British soldiers to Ukraine if necessary, French President Emmanuel Macron is also working on a plan that will make Europe “a deterrent against Russia”. In this context, the idea of a “European Force” under the roof of NATO or independently comes to the fore. If a peace agreement is signed, it is proposed that up to 30,000 soldiers will be deployed in Ukraine, but will not be directly on the front line, to protect critical facilities, while the front line will be monitored with drones and “state-of-the-art” surveillance methods. Air power will be kept ready over Poland or Romania, and the US Air Force can also be on “standby” to deter possible violations. This aims to reopen Ukrainian airspace to commercial flights. At the same time, the Dutch Parliament approved a motion to send peacekeepers to Ukraine by a large majority. Russia is uncomfortable with Ukraine’s possible NATO accession and also objects to the presence of European forces on the ground. This approach is also causing great debate on “agenda” and “live broadcast” platforms in the West; many broadcasters are covering the subject under the titles “best analysis” and “breaking news”. On the other hand, the NATO exercise Steadfast Dart 25, held near Romanian territory, carried out “live fire” exercises with hundreds of soldiers, fighter jets, attack helicopters and tanks. With the newly established Allied Response Force (ARF), an attempt is being made to establish a rapid and effective military presence on the eastern flank. England is one of the main elements leading this force. This exercise received wide coverage under the titles of “Ukraine Russia war last minute”. After the peace agreement, England announced that it could deploy Typhoon fighter jets to patrol the skies over Ukraine. Donald Trump has long demanded that European countries strengthen their own defenses and says that NATO members should allocate 5% of their gross domestic product to the military. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reiterated that they would not send “USS troops” to Ukraine, but did not rule out support such as logistics or air support. Trump announced that he would not block the European initiative by saying, “Let the peacekeepers leave Europe, I will not object.” Since the White House has not taken a clear stance, European countries are forced to take steps themselves. As a result, European leaders are seriously discussing having a deterrent force on the ground in the event of a possible peace or ceasefire with Russia, should Ukraine remain outside the NATO umbrella. Options for different sizes of military forces are on the agenda, but the real question is how long Europe can sustain such a comprehensive mission without U.S. ground participation.
