BOB "BOOMER" BROWN | Raiders History

(Jump to 2:13 for Raiders) My tribute to the most aggressive Offensive Tackle of all time. Along with Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, and Jim Otto, he was one of four (FOUR!) Hall of Famers on the offensive line for the Oakland Raiders from 1971-1973. One of the first 300 pound offensive lineman and standing at 6'4", Brown looked huge in his over-sized shoulder pads but was surprisingly quick. He he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds at his first Eagles Training Camp. He had 20-inch biceps and 33-inch thighs, and his chest expanded to 57 inches. He polished his footwork by skipping rope and he trained five hours a day in the off-season. He was also one of the first players to seriously lift weights. In 1966 his military press was within 10 pounds of the record in the USA. Brown earned the nickname "Boomer" from the sound it made when he hit his opponent. A knee injury suffered in 1967 bothered him the rest of his career. With today's medicine, Bob Brown would have played a lot longer, but he still earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors despite the bad knee.. From playing with the aggression of a defensive player to having a Master's Degree, from his plaster cast forearm pads to his demands to be paid like a franchise QB, from his shattering the goalpost with a forearm shiver without pads on to reversing the screws in his helmet to counter Deacon Jones' head slap, Bob Brown was truly one of a kind. A 5 time first team All Pro and named to 6 Pro Bowls. Named to the NFL All 1960's team and was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2004. His #64 was retired by Nebraska and he was named NFL Lineman of the Year 3 times. His style of play in his own words: “I’m not a finesse lineman like a lot of tackles in this league,” explained Brown. “There’s nothing fancy about me. I’m about as fancy as a sixteen-pound sledge hammer. I’m basic.” #Raiders #OldSchoolNFL #NFLMostSavage #VegasRaiders #Beastmode #OKBoomer #NFLBestOffensiveLineman #NFL100 #JustWinBaby
