This video shows a mass in porta hepatis. Ultrasonography is the most commonly used, inexpensive, readily available modality for evaluation of the porta hepatis. The availability of high-resolution transducers has increased its importance for daily practice. Color, spectral, and power Doppler US provide excellent information about the vascular structures in the porta hepatis. Porta hepatis is a transverse fissure on the visceral surface of the liver between the caudate and quadrate lobes. It lodges the followings structures also called portal triad. From anterior to posterior i.e. common hepatic duct ( It leaves) hepatic artery proper (It enters). hepatic portal vein (It enters). Sympathetic nerves and Hepatic branch of the vagus nerve Thrombosis of the portal vein is seen with various pathologic conditions. Common causes include cirrhosis; cholangitis; pancreatitis; appendicitis; diverticulitis; neoplasms such as hepatocellular carcinoma and pancreatic cancer; hypercoagulable states; and surgeries such as liver transplantation, splenectomy, and portosystemic shunt surgery.
