Kettlewell to Arncliffe, The Yorkshire Dales – 5th January 2026 OS Grid Reference - SD9676772220 Distance – 2.5 miles (4 km) Grade – Moderate Time – 1.25 hours Elevation – 490ft (150 meters) Weather forecast – Dry, Bright sunshine Temperature – 0 degrees (Feels like -4 degrees) We have climbed up the track from Kettlewell to Gate Cote Scar on the lower heights of Old Cote Moor many times. It is a tough little section, immediately testing the leg muscles in a short sharp 80 metre ascent. Once on the level above Gate Cote Scar the views were utterly spectacular. Snow lying on hills make them somehow different and as if nakedly forced to reveal their distinctive contours. We had stunning clear views into Littondale and beyond as we descended from the summit of Old Cote Moor. Some time later we came to Byre Bank Wood; which overlooks Arncliffe and descended into the village were we finished the walk.
