Jeff Lyth, the senior safety advisor with the British Columbia Construction Safety Association (BCCSA), recently gave an update to the industry about the Safety Climate Tool, a new web based survey designed to determine the overall commitment to safety on jobsites. The survey is anonymous and easily accessible to members of the BCCSA, Lyth said, and added that companies with a Certificate of Recognition (COR) program in place do have fewer accidents. But the Climate Safety Tool opens up safety administration in the workplace by identifying “the subtleties and the nuances,” Lyth said. The companies that have gone through the process have given positive feedback, Lyth added, and said the tool is a “hassle-free delivery method.” The survey starts a conversation about safety in the industry that has not traditionally taken place, Lyth said. Once results are gathered by the survey tool, it adds to an ongoing dialogue to improve workplace safety. JOC Digital Media
