It’s clear that back when this was still a working animal farm, these pools were part of a clever water management system. They gathered excess runoff to keep the fields drier and the animals hydrated. It’s a system we’d love to revive—not for livestock, but for the wildlife that now calls this place home. There’s just one small obstacle: the path up to those pools is completely overgrown with blackberries and brambles. But this week, we’ve got help—from a rather unexpected source. We’re testing out the Mowrator, a remote-controlled mower that (true to the box) really does “mow like a beast.” Let’s just say, it’s not your average trail-clearer. While looking into the past is always fascinating, there’s something equally rewarding about investing in the future. This week, that means planting new fruit trees—trees that, with time, will provide food for our family and neighbors alike.
