EOcafe: The Copernicus Climate Change and Atmosphere Monitoring Services: driving user engagement

The European EO services industry is a key partner of the EU flagship Copernicus programme. The industry is a supplier of data through the contributing missions, a supplier of contracted services and is a user of both data and services under the Free and Open data policy. The 2024 EARSC Industry Survey showed the importance of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) to the industry, as the second and third most used Copernicus service, respectively. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts is the entity entrusted with the implementation of C3S and CAMS. Given the importance and potential of the two services for the EO services industry, in June 2022, EARSC and ECMWF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aimed to support the increased and continued uptake of CAMS and C3S by the EO services industry. In keeping with the MoU, the second part of our two-part EOcafe series with the Copernicus Entrusted Entities, will focus on CAMS and C3S. Under the priorities of the current agreement with the European Commission, ECMWF focused on meeting user needs at European, national and local level, supporting policy design and implementation.
