The United States government has imposed sanctions on eight Nigerians over alleged links to extremist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), as well as cyber-related offences. The action was announced in a February 10 publication by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a division of the United States Department of the Treasury, which updated its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List. Among those named are individuals allegedly connected to Boko Haram and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, alongside persons designated under counter-terrorism and cybercrime sanctions. One of the individuals listed, Salih Yusuf Adamu (also known as Salihu Yusuf), was reportedly linked to a network convicted in the United Arab Emirates in 2022 over an attempted $782,000 transfer from Dubai to insurgents in Nigeria. The sanctions block any property or financial interests the individuals may hold within US jurisdiction and prohibit transactions involving them. In this video, we break down: Who was sanctioned Why OFAC acted The political implications for Nigeria What this means for international relations Watch till the end for full analysis and context. #USSanctions #NigeriaNews #BokoHaram #ISIL #Cybercrime #OFAC #BreakingNews #TerrorismNews #USNigeria #PoliticalAnalysis #PrimusMedia
