Here’s a detailed look at each Salter-Harris fracture type and their clinical significance: 🔹 Salter-Harris Type I: Involves the growth plate only, often occult on imaging, and typically has a good prognosis. 🔹 Salter-Harris Type II: Extends through the growth plate and metaphysis and is the most common type. It generally has a good prognosis. 🔹 Salter-Harris Type III: Involves both the growth plate and epiphysis, entering the joint space. It carries a worse prognosis, potentially leading to premature growth plate fusion and osteoarthritis. 🔹 Salter-Harris Type IV: A more complex fracture extending through the growth plate, epiphysis, and metaphysis, also entering the joint. This type is similar to Type III in prognosis, with potential for growth disturbances. 🔹 Salter-Harris Type V: A crush injury to the growth plate, leading to vascular injury and premature fusion.
