Many dancers struggle to maintain proper ankle alignment when rising to demi-pointe (élevé). When the ankle collapses inward or becomes unstable, it can reduce balance, decrease strength, and increase the risk of injury. In this video, I demonstrate a simple exercise using a small ball between the ankles to help guide proper alignment while rising onto demi-pointe. This exercise helps dancers: • improve ankle alignment in relevé / élevé • strengthen the intrinsic stabilizers of the ankle and foot • develop better balance and control • reduce excessive pronation when rising onto demi-pointe By training the ankle to stay aligned over the 1st and second toes, dancers can develop stronger and more efficient technique. As a physical therapist working with dancers, I frequently use exercises like this to improve ankle stability, foot control, and injury prevention. ⚠️ Move slowly and stay within a comfortable range. If you have pain or a recent injury, consult a qualified professional before performing this exercise. About Me Dr. Lisa Clarkson, DPT Orthopedic Physical Therapist Functional Medicine Practitioner Dancing Tree Physical Therapy & Wellness I specialize in helping dancers improve mobility, stability, and movement control to support both performance and injury prevention.
