Urban Decay: The Wheel of Misfortune

What was formerly the Three Kids manganese mine, has now turned into a place of urban decay, neglect, and even street art. It's certainly not your average attraction in Las Vegas nor is it a recommended hiking trail. The Wheel of Misfortune and this location will make you feel as though the apocalypse has arrived and there's nothing else like this in the Las Vegas area. Random debris such as burned bricks, barrels, spray paint bottles and used tires litter the desert land that was once a source of wealth. The city of Henderson expanded thanks in part to the manganese deposits on the outside of town and it was where one-third of the countries supply came from during the first and second World Wars. Buildings and other parts of the production facilities at this location have been left abandoned despite much consideration of cleaning the area up and building a residential area. However, this would certainly call for an expensive and challenging, operation and it's been best to turn a blind eye to the whole situation The Three Kids Mine is also still there but certainly abandoned as well. A part of one of the facilities was graffitied by the street artist "Aware" which reflects the emotions of people coming to Las Vegas with hopes and dreams of striking it rich but only to have those dreams crushed because of misfortune. In this gallery, I mainly focus on the Wheel of Misfortune but also some of the unique buildings in the area. I will also attach a video soon of what it's like walking here.
