Devils Hole pupfish had always been on the brink of extinction. Its population is unstable, at some point even plummeted into only 35 individuals. Conservation efforts had been done to keep their existence. It is one of the first animal to be protected by the US government. Even so, there are some controversies surrounding their conservation.
