The Cathedral of Saint Mary the Royal of the Almudena is more commonly known as the Almudena Cathedral. Its construction began in 1883 and finished over a century later, which makes its architectural style very diverse. It is located opposite the Royal Palace. The foundation stone was laid in 1883 and originally it was built in a Gothic style. The cathedral seems to have been built on the site of a medieval mosque so there are also Moorish influences to the architecture. Construction was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War and when construction resumed, it was finished in a Baroque style. The crypt or burial place, is one of the largest in Spain and houses the bodies of many prominent Madrid families. The crypt has a beautiful chapel that is free of charge to enter. You can also enter the cathedral free of charge. If you want to enter the Cathedral's musuem or access its rooftop, then there is an admission charge.
