A Day in the Life of a Vet 2023, Day 4 with FarmGate Veterinary Group

In this 'Day in the Life series, with XLVets Ireland and MSD Animal Health, during Day 4 we followed the busy veterinary team at FarmGate Veterinary Group, XLVets Ireland member practice. The day was filled with a mix of procedures typical for the time of year on farms – from treating a cow with an allergic reaction, pre-breeding scanning of a dairy herd, fertility testing a bull, to hoof-pairing some lames cows. Even a nail stuck in a horse’s hoof had to be addressed. FarmGate Veterinary Group FarmGate Veterinary Group is a 9 vet specialist farm animal and equine veterinary practice based in East Galway, with clinics in Mountbellew, Ahascragh, Ballygar and Loughrea. The practice has roots back to the 1960's. FarmGate Veterinary joined XLVets in 2014. Their primary focus as a farm animal practice is a commitment to the agri-food industry through excellence in practice. Technical expertise, service to clients and dedication to herd and flock health management are all fundamentals to the core of this practice. FarmGate Veterinary provide farm animal and equine clients with an all-inclusive veterinary service which includes, veterinary clinical calls, TB testing, herd health planning, hoof care, mastitis control programmes, fertility work, scanning, equine stud work, knowledge transfer, laboratory services and farmer training. Conor Geraghty MVB Cert DHH Conor graduated from UCD in 1999 and owns and runs FarmGate Veterinary Group, an eight vet large animal/equine practice in east Galway. His specific veterinary interests include herd health, reproductive efficiency in beef and dairy cattle and knowledge transfer. He graduated from UCDs Dairy Herd Health in 2016. He has served on the CAVI committee since 2011 and has been Chair since 2014. He is past Chair of the Food Animal Group of Veterinary Ireland and past President of Veterinary Ireland. He is also an active member of a number of working groups within Animal Health Ireland.
