The Real SOFIA BULGARIA | Escaping the Tourist Zone! 🇧🇬

Getting away from the tourist zone in Sofia Bulgaria with a little street music on Vitosha Boulevard, a walk through the National Palace of Culture, Sofia’s best market & some old communist statues in Borisova Gradina Park. 🇧🇬 See all of my videos from Bulgaria here → https://bit.ly/mwt_Bulgaria On my final day in Sofia I decided to do something a little different - and that’s to forsake the city's landmarks for some less visited, unusual and forgotten spots close to the downtown area. My intention was to get off the beaten track and see another side of Sofia! I took a walk through Vitosha Boulevard and listened to some talented street musicians jamming away on the pavement. There was a fresh and energetic atmosphere pulsing through the city and it was good to get out of the tourist areas and see it for myself. Street dancers paraded through the heart of the city and families lined the cafes and bars. After flying my drone close to the National Palace of Culture I headed to a couple of markets, one inside (Central Market Hall) and one outside (Zhenski Pasar, also known as the Ladies Market). It seemed to be more of a local shopping area than a tourist attraction and that made the walk all the more worthwhile. If you’re looking for something to do in Sofia close to the city centre then these market halls are for you. After lunch I passed by the Lions Bridge en route to Borisova Gradina - the largest and oldest park in Sofia. By that time the sun was shining and families were out enjoying the good weather. I walked by a large monument named the Brotherly Mound that I'd seen from a distance and was surprised to see the red star of communism still decorating it after all these years. It was a fascinating glimpse into Bulgaria‘s history - with the communism period ending as recently as 1989. And with that my trip to Sofia Bulgaria had come to an end but what an experience! Thanks for watching and I hope next time I can get away from the big cities and explore some of Bulgaria’s other towns and villages.
