Thanks brother. With SD70’s leading the show and plus doing DPU duty we have a pair of SD75’s sandwiched in the middle. Train 4 is on the dynamic brakes and the cooling fans are working hard to dissipate the braking energy. The most interesting feature in this train is undoubtedly the GTW 79179 caboose. It is classed as an M930 type car and it appears to be in very fine condition. A 2009 photo shows it still in possession of the original chimney which has since been removed. It now sports an aircon unit on the roof installed after that ’09 photo. The rrarchives site shows few, if any, Canadian sightings of 79179 that we could find. It has frequently been seen in MI, IL, OH over the last few years. We were unable to identify the ownership directly. However, based on 2018 information by brucerail10 in Trainweb.org it appears likely that CN owns it. TrainWeb.Org states: “The news is the caboose has equipment to set up PTC, Positive Train Control. So, it was probably in Rapids to help set up the new signals and communication tower system between Junction City and Wisconsin Rapids in 2018, a year ago.” http://www.trainweb.org/brucerail10/w... At one time CN in Canada possessed hundreds of cabooses in the 79000 series and a few are believed to remain in specialty use. Cargo Notes: There are several carloads of those gigantic aluminium slabs that honestly we never tire of seeing. Also present is a nice looking 24 car string of covered gondolas owned by Midwest Rail Corporation of Illinois - partly owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Corp of Japan. There are several gons carrying what looks to be loads of piping in bundles. If any viewer has the ID on this manifest I invite you to comment. Best appreciated with woofers or quality ear buds.
