Ahhh, traffic! Did you know that in 2022, the average American driver spent 51 hours sitting in traffic. So many of the delays today are due to never-ending road repairs. The culprit--a-- 100-year-old concrete testing method. But, new game-changing sensor technology supported by NSF and developed by WaveLogix, a Purdue University company, wants to change how road concrete is tested. This is REBEL, a palm-size sensor deployed directly into concrete, which allows it to "talk". Once poured, the sensor relays real-time information and uses artificial intelligence to analyze the mixture. The technology will allow engineers to estimate better when fresh concrete is mature enough to open roads to traffic safely. WaveLogix REBEL technology has been selected as TIME's 2023 Best Inventions and is poised to bring our roads into the 21st century, saving commuters time and taxpayers money.
