ERN eUROGEN Webinar 17: Challenges in oncologic treatment of retroperitoneal sarcomas

This webinar was presented on 9th March 2021 by Dr. Nina Dabelić, clinical oncologist at the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, University Hospital Centre Sestre Milosrdnice in Zagreb, and is aimed at healthcare professionals. The presentation was co-authored by eUROGEN expert Prof. Ana Fröbe. Synopsis: Sarcomas are a rare and very heterogeneous group of malignant tumours with more than 70 different histologic subtypes. Their biologic and clinical behaviour and response to oncologic therapies can vary widely across different subtypes. Retroperitoneal localisation of sarcomas represents an additional challenge for the diagnosis and treatment for various reasons that will be discussed. Certain principles of oncological management of retroperitoneal sarcomas will be outlined. The need for individualised tumour assessment and patient-tailored therapeutic decision making within a multidisciplinary tumour board will be highlighted.
