Warcraft Lore Facts - Shattrath City

The dwelling of light. Literally. Transcript: #1: During the assault and destruction of Shattrath City by the Horde, the orcs used a strange red mist in their attack, which immediately began choking the draenei. Those draenei which did not die because of the mist lost their connection with the Light and, over time, those survivors of Shattrath transformed into Broken and Lost Ones. The orcs probably co-opted the weapon from the Burning Legion but did not use it again afterwards, most likely due to some adverse side effects which affected them as well. #2: Following its destruction, the city was left in ruins for many years. Over time, however, the Aldor priesthood, most likely led by High Priestess Ishanah and not Velen at the time, returned and began conducting rites inside a temple in the Lower City, also coming into conflict with Kael'thas's blood elves at some points in time. In addition, during this time period, Archmage Khadgar of the Sons of Lothar used his magic to reach into the Great Dark Beyond and found the Naaru, led by A'dal. Khadgar convinced the Naaru to come to Outland and, when they arrived, they sensed the Aldor priests performing their rites and settled into Shattrath City (driving out Illidan's forces from the city in the process). Over time, Shattrath became a beacon for the people of Outland and turned into a large gathering point for refugees, with the Aldor willingly relinquishing much of the rebuilt city in order to house and care for them. #3: The Aldor were eventually joined by the blood elf Scryers, under the leadership of the old mage and visionary Voren'thal the Seer, who abandoned Prince Kael'thas due to the latter's allegiance to the Burning Legion. Though the Naaru adopted an atitude of "forgive and forget", many Aldor nonetheless harbored resentment towards the Scryers, who now settled into the former residential district of Shattrath before its destruction. The Scryers are notable for having the largest library and repository of lore in Outland, which they claim is even greater than the one found in Silvermoon City. Interestingly enough, despite their ties to their original factions, namely the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas for the Scryers and Velen's draenei for the Aldor, both factions answer to the Naaru first and foremost. #4: Since the events of Frozen Throne, the Warden Maiev Shadowsong remained in Outland, along with a few surviving Watchers, and waged a guerilla campaign against Illidan, recruiting aid wherever she found it, most often in the form of draenei and Broken. To this end, she tried to convince the Aldor to grant her aid, but was refused by High Priestess Ishanah, who saw Maiev's quest as more of a personal vendetta rather than a desire for justice. Maiev then approached A'dal himself to ask for aid, but the Naaru refused and advised her to seek the aid of the Scryers and of their leader, Voren'thal the Seer. Though the Scryers seemed willing to assist, Maiev refused to associate herself with blood elves and ignored them, leaving Shattrath afterwards. #5: Shattrath City also contributed to the defense of Theramore against the Horde under Garrosh Hellscream. A'dal, likely under the request of Khadgar, sent General Tiras'alan, along with other draenei in order to defend the city. However, Tiras'alan, along with, presumably, most of his troops, were eradicated by the mana bomb used to destroy Theramore. You should probably follow me on twitter. @Teeironor
