Walk around an ancient stone circle in the north of England. Long Meg and her daughters is a stone circle in the Eden Valley, on the edge of the Lake District. Legend says they were a coven of witches, turned to stone by a Scottish wizard. The number of stones cannot be counted - if anyone counts them twice and comes to the same number, the spell will be broken. Long Meg is the tallest of the stones, standing outside of the circle. From certain angles, there is a resemblance to a face or head. Look closely and you will see two spirals carved into the sandstone. Her daughters lie in a circle, over 100m in diameter, the largest in Cumbria and the third widest in England. They date to around 1500BC. William Wordsworth reckoned the site to be, after Stonehenge, the most notable relic in the country.
