POPPET VALVE! If you're watching this video, odds are you are experiencing an overheating scenario with your outboard while at low rpm/idle. There is water flowing from the tell tail, however, the motor is still getting too hot. How is that possible? My motor (250 Optimax Pro XS) was overheating while hooked up to a hose while idling, even though it was moving plenty of water through the tell tail (pee hole). After replacing both thermostats, entire water pump assembly, and making sure no blockages were present, the last potential culprit was the POPPET VALVE. Although every outboard has one to help regulate the amount of water being used to cool, and not over cool the engine, most people have never heard of one. Probably the most common sign of this failure is water flowing through the tell tail as normal, yet the motor is overheating. It is a fairly easy job to get in and replace the part, as well as inexpensive. When your engine alarms go off, don't ignore them - something is wrong! In this case, water could be flowing out the tell tail while running, but the powerhead is burning up. Fortunately I caught these issues with my motor before they could result in a catastrophic failure. Maintenance people, it's a thing! ***link to kit I used : https://www.ebay.com/itm/134306061684...
