Andy Fairley was a singer, poet, and artist associated with the Bristol post-punk/experimental music scene in the early 1980s. He is described as having one of the most distinctive vocal styles of any artist to record for Adrian Sherwood/On-U Sound. He was active primarily between 1980–1983 in terms of his band output, and later via archival releases. Some of his musical groups/projects are Fishfood (one of his early bands in Bristol) and The Birth of Sharon (a later group, involving experimental, avant-garde, post-punk and dub influence). Andy was was the singer in these. His music mixed punk, experimental sound, found sounds, analog synth, tape sampling, reggae, krautrock, and industrial influences. He was regarded as a somewhat under-known or overlooked figure whose work gained renewed interest via archival reissues. The compilation Fishfood vs The Birth of Sharon (released by Bristol Archive Records) collects much of his recorded output from 1980-1983.
