Major transportation projects take years. If we want options like light rail, we must start planning today. Virginia Beach is growing. So is our traffic and our economy. The question is simple: are we planning for the future? Or are we still stuck in Princess Anne County past? This week, I asked Secretary of Transportation Nick Donohue about the long-term vision for light rail and connecting Virginia Beach to Norfolk. Right now, we rely on buses and cars. For a city of our size, it is not sustainable in the long term and does not attract the type of talent and business opportunities we need to continue our growth. I am working with Delegate Alex Askew, who introduced legislation this year to study extending light rail to the Oceanfront and evaluate next steps. Together, we are focused on serious planning so Virginia Beach is not left behind. The future of Virginia Beach transportation starts with planning. It's time for us to move forward.
