Samsung Galaxy A17 Review - Know This Before

This is not a sponsored review. The Samsung Galaxy A17, launched a month ago for around €200, is a budget-friendly phone with a few strong points but some notable drawbacks. The packaging is minimal, offering only a USB-C cable and SIM tool. The base model includes 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, expandable via microSD, with higher variants available. The device features a plastic body with Gorilla Glass Victus protection, IP54 water and dust resistance, and weighs 192 grams. Its 6.7-inch OLED display provides sharp visuals at 1080p with a 90Hz refresh rate, though it lacks HDR and uses older OLED tech. Performance is powered by the Exynos 1330, the same as last year, which results in lag and stutter. Biometrics are handled by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which works but is slow. Audio is limited to a single loud mono speaker. On the software side, it ships with One UI 7 (Android 15), with Samsung promising seven OS upgrades. The 5000mAh battery performs well, lasting over two days of moderate use, with 25W fast charging filling it in about 80 minutes. The main 50MP camera with OIS delivers solid photos in good light, but the ultrawide and macro sensors disappoint. Selfies are strong, though video is capped at 1080p/30fps. Overall, despite decent display, battery, and software support, the weak chipset and limited audio make last year’s models like the A36 a better choice.
