Lee Zii Jia: The Hero That Malaysia Doesn't Deserve

Because from all we can see on social media — with his profile picture turning black, and with the whole series of pictures that he posted (or rather, reposted from Axel Tinsley) — things don’t look good. In this video, I go into a little bit of the story of why I believe that LZJ is the hero that Malaysia doesn’t deserve. And I reflect on what he must have been going through all this while in representing Malaysia — something that is supposed to be a major point of pride for a person, and indeed, one of the highest achievements a person can aspire toward. But what does it really mean to represent a country? I think that of all people who have done so, LZJ is one of those who has faced it in the most unpleasant of ways — dealing not only with the glory of success, but also with the toxicity of the average Malaysian netizen, who brings out poison in moments where they should be offering praise. This is the same glory that Malaysians seem to crave for... but seem perpetually unable to contribute towards — often only adding toxicity, vitriol, and negativity instead. Now, it’s not to say that Malaysians don’t support one another at all. That would be unfair. Yes, we do support one another. But the real question is: are we doing it enough? And what are we doing about the people out there who seem to take pleasure in torturing and being toxic to those who represent us — those who are supposed to bring our name to the world stage? I think that this is something worthwhile to talk about, and that’s why I decided to share this. What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
