CHARLIE HADEN LIBERATION MUSIC ORCHESTRA II BY JOHN J. HUNT

One hot sticky night 42 years ago I sat down in the middle of this group led by Charlie Haden and recorded this concert. I wish I knew the names of all the players, but I don't, except for my friend Milcho Leviev on keyboards. Charlie had recorded an album in 1969 of this music but he felt it was a good time to reissue it, because it is an anthem of struggle, you can hear the battles and the sounds of war, which was a war, the Spanish Civil War, against fascism. My impressionistic camera work tries to capture up close the artists whom Charlie had assembled this night. I have to check but I may issue more of this concert, the music is so incredible. I believe the concert was dedicated to the victims of the war in El Salvador, Martin Sheen read a poem for the friendly audience, and I think Ed Pearl was one of the organizers. Thanks to Danny Sofer who loaned me his S-VHS camera.
