ASMR Sound & Music on Tape | Naval Reel-to-Reel + Novation Peak + Augmented YANGTZE + Sony TC-5550-2

I picked up a vintage Naval RD-365/UN reel-to-reel tape machine from eBay in pristine condition and used it to craft the soundscape for WOW Magazine’s Year of the Snake editorial. After reviewing the footage, I began shaping the ambience and mood with evolving pads—experimenting with filter and resonance settings on the ‪@NovationTV‬ Peak. Then I decided to use ‪@ArturiaOfficial‬ Augmented YANGTZE for it's texturized Chinese instruments that fits perfectly with the theme. Since the editorial was shot on actual film, I ran the Augmented YANGTZE through the Naval tape machine to give it vintage warmth and character. I recorded all other elements (pads, FX, ambiences) onto the ‪@Sony‬ TC-5550-2, a machine made famous by the show Mindhunter, and ran the master again onto the Sony tape machine and back to ‪@Ableton‬ I simplified the process in this short film to highlight my production workflow. 📜 About the Naval RD-365/UN Tape Machine: This open-reel unit was used aboard naval ships during the 1950s–60s, primarily for training and entertainment. Documentation is limited—most info I found came from navy-radio.com.
