"Van der Graaf Generator - NYC '76" A film by Jim Christopulos Documents VdGG's one and only U.S. gig of the 70s (Beacon Theater, NYC; October 18, 1976) The band seemed crazed that night, teetering on the edge but somehow never going over. The chaotic element almost veers into punk territory at times and is a joy to listen to. And now, after years of having only the audio to enjoy, it's a great treat to actually see the band performing this wonderfully mad music. Utilizing three sources of silent Super 8 film (graciously donated by Bill Wilson, John Adams, and Anonymous** [Update: 'Anonymous' has come forth and is a long-time fan named Chris Previti]), I synched up the 5 - 20 second film clips with audio from the concert. Augmented with rare still photos from the gig, graphics/audio from contemporary media, and commentary from the band and its fans, the goal was to create an examination, observation, and celebration of Van der Graaf's legendary NYC concert from 1976.
