[Anchor] Chinese individuals secretly entered Jeju by crossing a sea of 460 km in a small rubber boat. The police have apprehended one of the six illegal immigrants and are tracking the others. Reporter Na Jong-hoon has the details. [Report] A man carrying a travel bag emerges from a motel surrounded by police. He is one of the Chinese individuals who illegally entered the country by riding a rubber boat discovered off the coast of Jeju yesterday (Sept. 8). The police also apprehended one illegal Chinese woman who was with him. [Motel Official: "The woman is Chinese, and she has been living here for more than a year. The detectives came and took her away."] One of the Chinese individuals who illegally entered Jeju was caught at a motel in Seogwipo City. This was about 10 hours after the initial report was received. The apprehended Chinese individual stated that he departed from Nantong City in Jiangsu Province, China, on the afternoon of the 7th and arrived at the western coast of Jeju early the next morning by rubber boat. He crossed the 460 km distance of the Yellow Sea in a rubber boat equipped with a 90-horsepower engine. This individual claimed that he paid 5 million won to a broker in China to board the boat in order to earn money in South Korea. There were a total of six people on the boat, and they did not know each other, scattering immediately after arriving in Jeju. The arrested Chinese individual was found to have entered Jeju in 2017 on a visa waiver and was illegally staying until he was deported in January of last year. [Jo Man-jin/Head of the Criminal Investigation Division, Jeju Western Police Station: "We received intelligence that a Chinese individual took a taxi about 1.5 km from the scene, and we confirmed the movement route and apprehended him."] The police have handed over the arrested Chinese woman to the Immigration Office and are pursuing the five Chinese individuals who have gone into hiding.
