Walking Chicago Riverwalk in Cold Winter ❄️ January 2022 | Downtown Chicago

By late January 2022, it had already snowed several times in Chicago, and this winter was colder than I expected. So beyond the pedestrian path, Chicago Riverwalk was covered with thick snow. There was some ice on Chicago River, but the ice was not continuous. The confluence of north and south branches of the Chicago river was completely free of ice. My walking was from Lake Street Bridge to DuSable Bridge. The distance I walked was not the entire Chicago Riverwalk, but it was most of it. Yes, it was a bit cold, but I didn’t mind. Walking in this cold weather, I took delight in looking at the architecture, being among other walkers and joggers, and feeling the freedom. The thick snow, half-frozen river, blue sky, bridges and skyscrapers created a breathtaking landscape of downtown Chicago. Without green, Chicago Riverwalk exhibited a different kind of beauty—the beauty of purity.
