1st Reading: 2 Samuel 7:4–5a, 12–14a, 16 God makes a covenant with King David, promising that his house and kingdom will endure forever. This is not just about an earthly dynasty—it points forward to the coming of Christ, born from David’s line. Key Message: God is faithful to His promises, and His plan of salvation unfolds across generations. Saint Joseph stands within this promise as a guardian of the lineage through which Jesus comes. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89 “I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever.” Key Message: God’s mercy and faithfulness endure forever. His covenant with David is a sign of His unchanging love—a love that is fulfilled in Christ and quietly upheld by Joseph’s obedience. 2nd Reading: Romans 4:13, 16–18, 22 St. Paul reflects on the faith of Abraham, who trusted God even when the promise seemed impossible. His faith was credited to him as righteousness. Key Message: True righteousness comes through faith. Like Abraham, Joseph believed and trusted in God’s plan—even when it was beyond human understanding. Gospel: Matthew 1:16, 18–21, 24a The Gospel tells of Joseph’s role in the birth of Jesus. When he discovers Mary is with child, he initially plans to leave quietly. But after the angel appears in a dream, he obeys God’s command and takes Mary as his wife. Key Message: Joseph is a model of quiet obedience, courage, and trust. He listens to God and acts without hesitation, embracing his mission as the earthly father of Jesus. “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home… she will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus.” (Matthew 1:20–21) Overall Reflection The readings highlight faith, obedience, and trust in God’s plan. Saint Joseph is presented as a man of deep faith—like Abraham—who becomes a vital part of God’s saving promise to David. Though he speaks no words in Scripture, his actions speak powerfully. He teaches us that: God works through the humble and obedient Faith means trusting even without full understanding Holiness is often lived in quiet, faithful duty
