Iconography PART 2️⃣ adding a decorative border and how to make pastiglia

I’m am not an iconographer. I am merely an individual who wanted to learn how to write an icon. I enrolled in a group class with a local iconographer and I also bought an online class by an international iconographer. I also struggled to find step by step instructions to prepare the boards so I decided to do this video in the hope that someone will find it useful. We were invited to paint a border on our icon but my painting skills are substandard. I did some research and decided I could handle pastiglia. I could not find a formula to make it. After numerous tests, I found the 1:1 combination of store bought Heavy Gesso and store bought regular Gesso from Liquitex worked well. I also made small batches and added hot water as you’ll see. In part 3, I will show you how I did the decorative pastiglia for a more complex icon with letters etc. Please drop any questions in the comment section. Louise
