New India CMD: GST Relief To Benefit Policyholders, Minimal ITC Impact | Girija Subramanian | ET Now New India Assurance CMD Girija Subramanian said the company will pass on the maximum benefit of the GST exemption on life and health insurance to policyholders, calling it a “progressive and welcome step” by the government. Speaking to ET Now, she noted that health insurance accounts for 46% of New India’s portfolio, but the retail portion is only 15–20% of that share, or less than 10% of the overall book. Hence, the impact of Input Tax Credit (ITC) loss will be minimal for New India, though standalone health insurers may feel it more. On reports of PSU insurers launching zero-tax products, she clarified New India has not announced such a plan. Subramanian added that GST cuts on vehicles would lower IDV and premiums but boost sales, balancing motor volumes.
