No matter which DE1 you own, you can replace the old parts in your machine's group head with our new and improved set of parts. They're easily screwed into the underside of the group head, and they control how water comes onto the coffee puck. Order here: https://decentespresso.com/accessories The engineering behind these new parts: https://decentespresso.com/blog/desig... The benefits of using our new part set: Improved water distribution: They're redesigned to distribute water where it's needed most, which increases the overall extraction and improves the coffee taste. More-accurate puck temperature measuring: This allows the brew to get up to temperature sooner in the shot, and avoids overheating the puck. Oil resistant: The new materials resist coffee oils — so no stale coffee flavors like you get from metal parts that collect old coffee oils. Reduced channeling: Less headspace above the coffee puck reduces channeling and increases mouthfeel and shot consistency. Temperature accuracy: Faster and more accurate temperature profiling. Less cleaning: the parts are oil resistant, so you rarely need to remove and clean them. No more stripped screw heads: If you do need to remove the parts, we switched to Torx screws to reduce stripping. No metal interactions between brass and stainless steel. These parts are available to all DE1 owners — all the way back to DE1 v1.0, and it's a simple self-install. You can order them here https://decentespresso.com/accessories or if you have a goodie pack to redeem: https://decentespresso.com/goodiepack Also see this video to replace the parts on your DE1: • How to upgrade the group head parts on you... 0:00 Intro 0:05 What materials are the new parts made of? 0:22 Reasons for moving from brass to PPS 0:48 Disadvantages of brass 1:11 Of stainless steel screws and brass parts 1:54 Changing global standards make brass parts expensive 2:35 Current brass is expensive to CNC 3:17 Coffee oils tend to stick to brass 3:29 When did we start developing the new parts? 3:37 Materials tested and what were the pros and cons? 4:35 Water flow over the traditional group head parts 5:38 Objective: make a part that evenly distributes water 5:58 The Radial Extraction Test 6:52 How the core group worked on improving the parts 7:22 The key reason why they settled on the new design 7:44 By how much does the new design improve EY? 8:22 How our machine measures temperature differently 8:48 How the Decent controls water temperature 10:00 Why brass causes latency in temperature measurements 11:02 Moving to plastic (PPS) to resolve the heat sink issue 11:15 What the testers have said 11:22 How PPS makes temperature measurements faster 13:22 Reducing head space to the E61 machine standard 14:32 Outro
