Going into the 2000 season Auburn would add a highly touted JUCO RB Rudi Johnson to the team. Auburn had been one of the worst rushing offensive teams in the FBS for the past 4 years. With the addition of Rudi Johnson, Auburn's offense would become a more run first offense and would help turnaround an Auburn program that had finished 3-8 in 1998 and 5-6 in 1999. Auburn would build a comfortable 28-7 lead going into the 4th quarter but a turnover and an offensive 3 and out by Auburn would help spark Wyoming's offense as they climbed back into the game to cut the lead to 28-21. After Wyoming's late surge, Rudi Johnson would break a 70 yard touchdown run that would seal the game for Auburn and give the Tigers a 35-21 win.
