In July 2024, we embarked on a field research trip to Malindi, Kenya, to explore the vibrant musical traditions of the Giriama community. Our first encounter was with the Bin Hare – Mwanzele group, founded by the late Bin Hare Snr. and now led by his son Bin Hare Jnr. This intergenerational ensemble exemplifies how music can bridge past and present, keeping the spirit of Mwanzele alive. Come with us to the beautiful mangroves to experience the uplifting and awe-inspiring music and dance of Bin Hare.
