by Filet Trio Trio 02-01-26 sorry it's been a few weeks. we had a gig and i am waiting for media. anyway thanks for waiting. i will tell a story. the grey noise in this track is an old Concertmate MG-1 analog synth from 1981. sold new by Radio Shack to my friend who had it for a long time and by some luck i ended up with it. we named it Zic. i think it's the only instrument i ever gave a name. i never really learned how to use the electronics to get something i wanted (except helicopters), rather it is a beast that seems to have it's own personality and whatever happens with it happens. it's something you can play in a very unintentional way. even the pulse function isn't clockwork (which i can't understand but maybe it's alive). about 15 or 20 years ago Zic died. i couldn't get it to work so i looked inside. there was a nylon mesh thingy in there that was probably designed as a dust cover for the circuit board except that it had melted all over the board as very sticky black goo. i used at least one full can of cheap electronics cleaner and hosed it down. i cleaned all the pots and greased the sliders and it came back to life...but in a different sounding way. it sounds different now and you can't get a clear tone out of it, which is fine. on this track i plugged it into an old reverb with bad pots. that's the scratchiness at the end. have i said too much? should one's recipes always stay close to the chest?
