Touching down at 8 AM, we find ourselves with a few hours to kill before check-in, and our friend is arriving on a later flight. We take this opportunity to explore Faro and its hidden gems. Despite an overcast sky, our spirits remain high as we dive into the local culinary scene. Our first stop is a cozy spot serving mouthwatering peri peri chicken at a bargain price, giving us the perfect introduction to Faro's delicious offerings. As we wander through the city, we stumble upon a vibrant local festival filled with traditional Portuguese music and performances, adding a festive flair to our first day. Faro's flat streets make it incredibly easy to navigate on foot, a refreshing change from the hilly terrains of Lisbon and Porto, which we'll visit next. On the second day, we head to one of Faro's beautiful islands. For just under 4 euros, a return ticket from the old town port takes us to Praia de Faro. Here, we spend the day basking on the beach, soaking up the sun, and enjoying a delightful traditional lunch. Faro has already captured our hearts with its rich culture, delicious food, and stunning scenery.
