RECOVERY MOVIE MEET-UPs is proud to present... Ted and his special guest Tammy Ginader discuss addiction to Perfection through the lens of Darren Aronofsky's psychological horror masterpiece BLACK SWAN. Does the addiction to perfection cause other addictions? Is there such a thing as being "too perfect." And who defines what "perfect" is anyway? As excerpted from the book ADDICTED IN FILM: "Who ever said Perfection was attainable to begin with? What is Perfection anyway? It’s ethereal, counterfactual. To be perfect means there are no flaws in either a material object or an idea. But this is physically impossible, objectively and (most certainly) subjectively. Physics proves that all matter is in a perpetual process of quantum flux, particle decay, and slave to the second law of thermodynamics—which states that entropy (disorder) always increases. So by that measure, the only truly perfect object in the universe is the universe itself at the moment of the Big Bang. And it was all downhill from that moment onward, save for little pockets of complexity called “humans” who struggle to stay organized. And notwithstanding Plato’s Theory of Forms, ideas are completely subjective and therefore only as perfect as the imperfect people who claim that they’re perfect, but aren’t."
