PORTAL VEIN The portal vein, also known as the hepatic portal vein, is a blood vessel that carries nutrient-rich blood to the liver. Duct A long hollow structure for holding a substance (as a liquid or gas). A bile duct is any of several long tube-like structures that carry from your liver, where it is made, to your gallbladder where it is stored.
