Welcome to the "Adventures in Ruins!" We are continuing our slow-travel journey through Southern Albania, exploring the incredible Greek-Roman history from Apollonia to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint. But it wouldn't be an "Empty Nest Adventure" without a few happy detours! Along the way, we deal with a grumpy shepherdess, a midnight security scare in Sarandë involving "left-handed Marlboros," and the local "guide dogs" who decided to join our tour. From lemon-filled camps to ancient stone theaters, this is our most historic leg of the trip yet! This week took us from the peaceful hills of Apollonia to the very edge of the Greek border. Highlights of this Adventure: • Apollonia’s Hospitality: We stayed at a camp tucked into the ruins where our host showered us with fresh lemons. We hiked 10,000 steps through the monastery and ruins with a local pack of dogs as our escorts! • Borsh Beach "Lullabies": A night on the beach sounds peaceful, but between the fighting cats, the roaming donkeys, and a bird pecking at our window at dawn, it was a busy night! • The Sarandë Scare: While parked on the "Albanian Riviera," we had some strange midnight visits. From people asking for chargers to "left-handed" cigarette requests, it was a night that put our camp security to the test. • The Grandeur of Butrint: These ruins are on a different level. Preserved for centuries, this city on a peninsula is a must-see. We opted to drive the long way around Lake Ksamil because the local cable ferry didn't look quite ready for an 8-meter motorhome like "Holly!" 🌅 Final Stop: Lake Mursi We ended our week parked near the serene Lake Mursi, surrounded by a massive herd of goats and sheep. It's the perfect quiet ending to a chaotic and historic week. HOW TO HELP US OUT • SUBSCRIBE! We just hit our first 100 Subscribers!
