And to think that in the 1960s, the Chêne Pointu residence, in Clichy sous-bois, was a must for modern comfort, with its well-kept lawns and red blinds. Forty years later, the spectacle is nightmarish: two out of three owners no longer pay their charges and all the elevators are out of order in these ten-storey apartment buildings. A porter has even been recruited to help the inhabitants to set up their races. The toilet water drain leaks regularly, causing foul-smelling flooding on the stairs. The Pointed Oak has become the symbol of poor housing in France. Despite these handicaps, owners still hope to sell their apartments, and real estate agents organize visits to this end-of-the-world setting.
