Wheelchair cushions are a tough thing to get right. I am only on my second wheelchair cushion. However I started in a different chair for the first 11 months and have recreated on many different pieces of adaptive equipment all with different types of seating. Six years of living on my butt has got me to this point. In this video I talk about my new (sat on for three weeks) cushion, a Varalite, Meridian ($1100 CND, made in Seattle WA USA) and compare it a little bit to my four year old Ride Designs, Forward ($900 USD, made in Littleton CO USA). Both standard, off the shelf cushions; nothing custom about them. Cushion covers that protect the expensive pieces from moisture are key. I also believe that a mesh cover is also very important for air circulation under rear, to maintain skin health, keeping it more dry and cool than sitting directly on an incontinence cover. This would be like sitting on a black leather vehicle seat that has been sitting in the sun. And let's not forget incontinence!!! YAY!
