Persistent onshore flow coupled with gusty winds/high waves led to significant amounts of water moving inland. Numerous homes took on water, as did some businesses in Port Clinton. Some lakeshore roads were damaged by the waves and debris in Port Clinton and Lakeside Marblehead. Cedar Point can be seen in the background of some of the wave footage. Travel was impacted with some roads impassable due to flooding. Gusty winds along the lakeshore combined with the flooding made the shoreline feel like it was in a cold tropical storm. The city has been asking for state and federal grants to help with shoreline erosion, according to an employee in the Port Clinton Department of Public Works. This event was just the latest in a series of significant lakeshore flooding and erosion events in the Great Lakes region. This video contains complete coverage of the lakeshore flooding event.
