Season 4 Episode 2: The Air Jordan 13, Inspired by a Cat

The Air Jordan 13 was a break from the traditional Tinker X Michael Jordan product design story. The AJ13 was designed by Tinker without the traditional consultation with Michael Jordan. This time Tinker spent time watching how Michael plays ball and concluded that his movements were like that of a cat. Stealthy, fast and accurate. Tinker then embarked on a sneaker that was inspired by the Black Cat. This was an interesting muse considering that it was the 13th Jordan in the Collection. At first glance, these sneakers do look like they are a cat’s paw. Also when turned upside down the Herringbone traction also mimics the look of the paws of the cat. The upper is given a suede treatment which is embellished on the midsole too. This gives the aesthetic a soft feel as if stroking a cat. The uppers' most striking feature is the hologram highlighting a Jumpman. This represents the eye of the Cat. The entire upper also features a reflective Scotchlite weave which lights up when exposed to the light. This is a similar feature for cats when their eyes reflect with exposure to bright lights. The upper has also been adorned with tiny dimple like concaves on the upper. This represents the footprints left by a cat. On the performance side, the AJ13 features a carbon fiber plate for ultimate lightweight stability and a full-length Zoom Air Cushion. This cushion is ideal for players who looking for a responsive shoe in high paced Basketball. Furthermore, players can enjoy tremendous stability and a firm footing with the upper's HIGH construction and exaggerated side support.
